Designers Jacket
The jacket project is our last one for this semester. The main focus is the construction heritage and materiality. I had a lot of ideas for the big picture of this jacket; finally, I decided to make a Jacket which gives an idea of genderless and asymmetrical. During the research process, I looked for elements of a jacket searching for a way to adjust elements for my jacket. Different from the previous projects I did for this course, I do not want to create garments having a lot of sweetness within it. Thinking about genderless, I decided my jacket colors to be black in general, red for side decorations and lining, and yellow for the rest.
For the materiality aspect, I search for materials in trimming store and choosing two trimmings, I put one of them at the back of the garment which would swag with the wind. On the other hand, I put the other one at the collar, in which it matches my design idea of “being different”. Moreover, I spent a lot of time creating the back folds; I think my time is worth when seeing the final outcome. The knits are another way for me to address materialities. I knitted for a cuff and created a pattern on the pocket. Last but not least, the ribbon for the belt is my own pattern, and I printed them on school fabric print machine. There is a lot to speak with my jacket; however, after all, I love this project which gives me a chance to develop and create my own design.
